This DVD demonstrates some of the readiness and structured activities described in the text. These activities use simple objects like Tinker Toys, pictures, crayons, etc. to allow students to have positive experiences in learning American Sign Language (ASL). The purpose of the DVD is to show how receptive skills are developed before expressive skills and how teachers can develop students' conversational competence in ASL without the use of spoken English.

The activities are demonstrated by Dennis Cokely, as the teacher, and several students who have no prior ASL background.
