DVD497 ASL for Beginners, ABC's, Numbers & Everyday Signs is an easy-to-learn, step-by-step approach to learning basic sign language, complete with drills and practice exercises to increase signing ability and understanding. Everyday communication is the centerpiece of each lesson. Host Clarissa begins with the signs for ABCs, then moves to numbers and finger spelling. After some quick words about grammar (questions are often signed in reverse order, listing the subject before the "wh" word), Clarissa demonstrates the importance of facial expressions while signing. As she talks, onscreen captions and emoji's appear. Finally, Clarissa illustrates some everyday signs, including name, yes, no, please, and thank you. Putting it all together, Clarissa has a conversation with a deaf friend, Rachel. The interaction is shown twice: first with Clarissa speaking and signing and Rachel with captions; second, with only the two signing. This DVD is user friendly, but fast paced. Clarissa uses Voice, while the Deaf guest uses ASL with Subtitles. (copyright 2019. Running time; 24 minutes )
