This DVD is designed to be used with the text to help students acquire conversational abilities in American Sign Language (ASL). Each unit targets a specific grammatical feature of ASL and presents a dialogue focusing on that grammatical feature. Each student DVD illustrates the dialogues in the companion text. Dialogues are presented three times-the first is a shot of both conversational participants, the second and third presentations each focus on one of the participants. This allows the viewer to converse" with each of the signers. Following the dialogues, there are anecdotes, stories and poems that illustrate the beauty of ASL and the creativity of the signers.

Each student tape addresses the following grammatical features:
  • Sentences types
  • Time
  • Pronominalization
  • Subjects & Objects
  • Classifiers
  • Locatives
  • Pluralization
  • Temporal Aspect
  • Distributional Aspect

The topic of each dialogue focuses on some aspect of the Deaf community. Together with the text, this series is a truly comprehensive package for teaching and learning ASL. [Charlotte Baker-Shenk, Dennis Cokely; DVD: (2007) 1 hour] DVDs not returnable once opened.
